The Hottest Celebrity Jewelry Trend Happening Now–Hoops!

emilyratajowski3 emilyratajowski2

Jennifer Lopez may have been one of the originators, but now there seems to be a resurgence in the popularity of hoop earrings and celebrities are following suit.

What makes this hoop trend new? Crank the typical thin metal circle hoop earrings up a notch… or 12 notches! We’ve spotted all kinds of luxe versions of the hoop earring — from diamond color coated to encrusted opal slices. Hoops are competing as the new statement earrings on the red carpet.

Not to mention they have a remarkable way of framing the face and are extremely adaptable in size to fit anyone’s face shape. They’re quintessential and dependable. Hoop shaped earrings have been a powerful symbol in numerous cultures throughout history. The oldest earrings archaeologists have discovered belong to Sumerian women who lived in 2500 BC, and favoured the classic gold hoop style.

Hoop earrings are a foolproof, classic staple and if you don’t have a pair of hoop earrings in your jewelry box, check out these celebrity looks for inspiration to add a pair now!

Late Summer Update from Gem Gossip

Gem Gossip

I’ve been getting ready for a big trunk show that I’m doing up in Boston on September 7th at M. Flynn, so all the new acquisitions are killing me. So many great pieces I want to keep for myself! These three are my current favorites and I think they go SO WELL together.

Gem Gossip

I love acquiring pieces that I’m completely obsessed with and love more and more each day–this medallion is certainly one of them! I got it from Oakgem at the show in Las Vegas this year. It is 18k yellow gold and the blue gemstone is sodalite. To my surprise, the zodiac featured is Virgo (I didn’t know it when I first got it) which is my zodiac, so it makes it even more special. Thanks to my Instagram followers who helped me figure out which zodiac it was.

Untitled Untitled

I guess I’ve been unaware how drawn I am to spheres lately. My latest purchase was this moon lamp that I can’t get enough of–I bought it from The Apollo Box, which has some really unique gift items on their site. The moon is apparently made using 3D print technology with eco-friendly materials. The photo on the right is from Instagram account @theearthsgems and I love everything about it! Look at all the variety of minerals and gems each are made of!

Gem Gossip

I had the pleasure of viewing a brand new jewelry line called Oli and Tess, a new venture for Polly Wheatley who started designing jewelry after 15 years in the fashion industry. She received a Victorian opal ring from her husband as a gift, which sparked her love for opals. After having a daughter, she wanted to design an opal ring to celebrate her birth, which is how her line indirectly began. Her work has an heirloom quality and feel, using all hand-selected opals.

Gem Gossip

We know how much I’m obsessed with Egyptian Revival jewelry, so this turquoise scarab collection was an awesome find! TBH it was a large pendant and one bracelet–I had my jeweler turn the bracelet into ten different pendants and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out! They will be offered for sale over on @shopGEMGOSSIP very soon!

Untitled Gem Gossip

Some treasures I brought back from my trip to Boston in the left photo–I added a carved Jade Buddha to my charm necklace from Long’s Jewelers and these 14k yellow gold Tuck studs from e scott originals. The photo on the right is from last week at the county fair. I ate way too much fried foods (got super sick actually) and played some games. The games and the baby goats are my favorite part of the fair. Worst part of the fair: ruining your favorite sneakers and getting in the way so you end up being the reason why a sheep escapes. lol

Gem Gossip

Some of my newest acquisitions–this Victorian black enamel ring (I think the top piece is Victorian and it was made into a ring) was a really unique find. I’m still adjusting to it and might sell it but I don’t know yet! Sometimes pieces speak to you right away, other times you have to grow to love them. I also got this ’03 date ring from Rusted Anchor Antiques and I think it pair awesome with my big diamond band and gold Saxon chain ring from Walters Faith.

Gem Gossip

More favorites from my personal collection — two pieces I want to talk about here: the 9k yellow gold Pacman hoop earrings by Ellie Air Jewellery and the letter D Vadabet charm set with a diamond from Vada Jewelry. Loving these two pieces so much right now.

Untitled Untitled

I was working hard one day and that sometimes forces me to “disrobe” my jewelry, which is what I did. The pile of rings sitting in my windowsill against the sunlight were perfect in that moment, I had to capture it in a photo. The 1917 date ring was a cool find from Louison Rare & Fine when Angela had a 50% off sale. Yes, that’s why it is important to follow everyone closely on Instagram because you never know when someone is going to have an insane sale.

The photo on the right was snapped in the car on the way back from Kentucky after a day full of antiquing. I somehow created a new collection (not that I need to collect anymore things) which consists of little porcelain dogs. I can’t explain how the collection is not just any porcelain dog–they have to look somewhat cute/creepy in the strangest way possible. It’s a very personal collection lol. The date ring I’m wearing here is from Eddie & Rose and it may be one of my favorite date rings in my collection.

Gem Gossip

Latest and greatest ear stack I’ve got going on, here’s what it consists of: Paige Novick ear cuff, tiny huggie hoop from Stacy Nolan Jewelry, Paige Novick‘s newest creation from her Powerful Pretty Things collection the Prism Suspender earring worn upwards, Pacman hoops from Ellie Air Jewellery. My perfect summer ear stack!!

Gem Gossip

Seriously might be my favorite piece in my entire collection–I find it so rewarding to collect something for several years before you can finally piece it all together and make something of it. That’s exactly what my figa collection is; years of collecting and one day randomly putting it together with my gold collar from Arrow & Anchor Antiques. These things were meant for each other. And I highly recommend getting a solid gold, stiff collar necklace for your charm collection. It will change the way you wear charms!

Untitled Untitled

Here’s a fun project I did over the summer: I took these three near and dear pieces that I hardly ever wear and mashed them together to form a giant long stick pendant. I actually am obsessed with it beyond words. Each is special to me, but the tanzanite pendant is most special of all. It was the first piece of jewelry I ever bought for myself…and I was in 7th grade! I learned about Tanzanite from the home shopping channels and fell in love with the stone. I went to the one and only jewelry store in my hometown mall and found this special pendant–it was $150. That was SO much money to me back when I was 13 years old. I put it on layaway and would do chores around the house and babysit. Eventually I earned enough to buy it and I wore it all the time.

Gem Gossip

This is just another styled look from over the summer–a jewelry look that I really liked paired with an off-the-shoulder top that I really love also. I think I’ve already gone over almost every piece that is pictured here, but if you’re wondering about something in particular, let me know!

Top Gold Jewelry Trends for 2017, with May Is Gold Month

May Is Gold Month | Gem Gossip May Is Gold Month | Gem Gossip May Is Gold Month | Gem Gossip

This is my fourth year partnering with May Is Gold Month and I think it goes without saying that I love all things karat gold! In preparing for this trend post, I thought it would be a good idea to spread out almost all of my jewelry across my entire desk. Scattering each piece allowed for all the memories, sentiment, special occasions and sparkle to overflow at once. I was reminded how powerful gold can be in more ways than one. It also helped me fully understand why May Is Gold Month exists and why they are so adamant about celebrating a single metal.

When found in the ground, gold can look like an undesirable pebble; dirty and hiding its value. It is the makers and jewelry designers who unlock the true beauty of gold when they create a piece of jewelry using gold. It comes to life and takes shape–it can be made to look shiny, textured, brushed, or hammered. It can be rose, green, red, or brown (even some other colors too). A single piece of gold jewelry can provoke laughter, tears and joy, all at the same time. It also can unlock the trends, feelings and historical happenings from which time period it was made.

All of my karat gold jewelry has a special place and meaning in my life. Some pieces were created during the turn-of-the-century, when other metals were being discovered and created…but gold always reigned supreme. Other pieces were designed specially for me by jewelry friends who have become like family. And my most important pieces of karat gold jewelry have been passed down to me, with tender stories and rich histories. It is my passion to teach others how to take all these jewels and style them in numerous ways, and it is May Is Gold Month‘s commitment to celebrating this that makes May one of my favorite months!

So this year’s trends will keep you on your toes–let’s get creative, as I challenge you each week to showing me how you style, wear and show me your karat gold with these six weekly trends–have fun!

Wrist Ornaments | Gem Gossip

Trend #1: Wrist Ornaments

My wrists have been BFF with these Victorian hinged bangles since the day I acquired each one. You know how the Cartier Love bracelets are known to “become a part of you” once you wear one–it is the same with these guys to me–and better yet, not every girl has a Victorian bangle. These are all 14k yellow gold and are uniquely me. I’m hoping to add another to my stack soon!

Jumping Through Hoops | Gem Gossip

Trend #2: Jumping Through Hoops

Let’s face it, hoops never go out of style–they may go on a hiatus every so often–but come back even stronger than ever every time. Like right now! Hoops are so popular–I’ve had these large, very light-weight 14k gold hoops for years now. I decided to update my hoop look by adding these post hoops that are tiny but very wide by J. Hannah. I love how modern they can look and how easy they can pair with just about anything!

Finger Frill | Gem Gossip

Trend #3: Finger Frill

Ah, easily my favorite of the weekly trends. Lately I’ve been loving all-gold looks paired together…ones that are geometric and linear in nature, with bends, twists, and curves. The newest addition is the one I’m wearing on my ring finger. It is a simple wave and the wave perfectly fits and accentuates my engagement ring. It has been my go-to wedding band as of late. A simple design can create such a unique impact!

Neck Jazz | Gem Gossip

Trend #4: Neck Jazz

My neck has been getting extra love lately as I’ve been really into karat gold necklaces, pendants and different types of chains. I added a solid gold wire necklace a few months ago to my jewelry wardrobe and it has been a game-changer. So many things I can do with it, the possibilities are limitless! I sometimes wear it alone, I can easily throw on a pendants or a grouping of charms, and I can layer it up as well, like seen here. I’ve been collecting lots of Egyptian Revival pendants and charms, like my ankh I’m wearing. I also can’t get enough of my DMD Metal Shaman necklace with a diamond drool and my simple diamond with no setting whatsoever (it is a pierced, free-standing diamond) necklace from La Brune & La Blonde.

Ear Decor | Gem Gossip

Trend #5: Ear Decor

How many of you got a new ear piercing this past year just because of how trendy karat gold earrings are?! Whether you pile on stud after stud, go for an ear cuff look, or go big and bold, ear decor has never been more popular! One of my favorite earrings are by Grace Lee Designs and she calls these Whisper Mobiles as each is like an art installation on your ear, but they are whisper-thin and ultra lightweight. I am wearing three different styles in one ear, all done in 14k yellow gold.

Gold for Guys | Gem Gossip

Trend #6: Gold for Guys

In a world with over 7 billion inhabitants, it is kismet that we find a partner that wants to spend the rest of its life on Earth with you. I happened to find that special person and what made our relationship even better was that he loves jewelry just as much as I do! From karat gold medallions, to karat gold sword stick pins, and everything in between, my husband loves wearing and collecting gold. My husband’s advice to any guy? “You should invest in a really nice karat gold bracelet that easily goes with your everyday style.” I agree!!

Five Investment Pieces You Need In Your Jewelry Wardrobe

Gem Gossip

I’ve been collecting fine jewelry for over fifteen years now and it is interesting to look back on pieces that I purchased in the beginning. I like to ask myself if those items were a good investment and part of evaluating that is knowing how much wear I’ve gotten out of each piece since purchasing. Your investment is only as good as how much joy and wear the piece of jewelry is providing for you–I am a firm believer in that!

But what if you don’t know where to start? Let’s say you’re new to collecting fine jewelry and only own a few odds and ends. You’ve got to start somewhere and being able to create a look by accessorizing your daily outfits with these pieces is a must. So let’s start with a list I’ve compiled of the five investment pieces you need to have in your jewelry wardrobe. These are staples that are meant to be classics, which never go out of style and will continue to get worn for years to come. These are pieces you should not feel bad for splurging on and rightfully so. These are future heirlooms, diamond encrusted, solid gold, hefty pieces that will be worth the same, if not more later on.

Q & A with Dana Seng Jewelry

Dana Seng Jewelry | Gem Gossip

The Instagram likes are no lie–people love Dana Seng‘s jewelry designs. Whether it is the stackable appeal or the fashionable looks each piece has, Dana is doing it right. It is hard to win over millennials in this fast-paced society we live in, however this new company has been working hard at creating jewelry that is fun, has a good value and can be worn by all ages. And just like that, people are catching on and wanting their own Dana Seng Jewelry pieces. The personalized birthstone initials are one of Dana’s most popular designs (I have my own sapphire D necklace) and it is easy to understand why. The personalization of both the gemstone used, as well as the initial chosen, is unique because of the two-step process. Most items only have one element that can be personalized–this has two!

I caught up with the designer herself to see what she has been up to:

“18917327014_ee66b51334_o"

I am currently working on designing new styles to add to my Eternity Collection for this Spring/Summer season. I am very anxious to share these new designs because I am putting in my all in each and every one of them. I am also sharing my signature Birthstone & Initial collection with many of our fans out there.

Dana Seng Jewelry | Gem Gossip Dana Seng Jewelry | Gem Gossip “19533122022_6a7bfb2dfc_o"

I started working at my husband’s wholesale company as an engagement ring designer. I was and still am very skillful at jewelry designing. So, I began my own Dana Seng Jewelry line. I use my passion and knowledge to create exceptionally unique styles that are rarely to be found.

Dana Seng Jewelry | Gem Gossip Dana Seng Jewelry | Gem Gossip “19351920968_fc7246ae21_b"

I would say that by showing my Birthstone & Initial Collection out there to our fans and the fact that they absolutely loved it was a proudest moment of my jewelry career.

Also opening up my own showroom and launching the website were huge highlights so far. My showroom is located in downtown Los Angeles and I just love how beautiful it is! Everything came together.

Dana Seng Jewelry | Gem Gossip Dana Seng Jewelry | Gem Gossip 19539853465_d2ff1a6e7d_b

To be honest, I create every piece of my design out of passion. I use a pen and a paper to scratch out all the ideas that I have and put them together. So my future goal is to continue to design unique and comfortable jewelry pieces with high quality materials and sell them at an affordable price point to our consumers.

Dana Seng Jewelry | Gem Gossip Dana Seng Jewelry | Gem Gossip 18918970793_b8fcd14fef_o

I would have to say an initial necklace that my grandmother gifted me when I was a teenager. I am very thankful and so grateful for this particular gift because it inspires me to figure out many unique designs.

Weekday Wardrobe: Accessorizing Rings & Clutches

GemGossip.com

Lately I’ve been all about wearing my newest addition to my necklace collection–this 14k yellow gold thick collar that I picked up from Arrow & Anchor Antiques. We did a trunk show together and of course, ended up buying something from her gorgeous selection. When you’re a jewelry lover (addict?) you tend to do that.

I’ve also been sorting through my vintage clutch collection, mostly which came from eBay and antique shops from my travels. Getting them out and pairing them up with different rings has been a fun thing to do, especially over the holidays. Wearing festive attire usually isn’t my thing, but I want to add something fun and different to what I normally wear when I attend holiday parties, so having these clutches is perfect for my style. I thought it would be cool to incorporate them into my Weekday Wardrobe post for this month since I promised more of these posts. Hope you enjoy!

What the BEST Golden Globes Jewelry Says About Today’s Trends

Michelle Williams Golden Globes

Sienna Miller Golden Globes

This year’s Golden Globes had us anticipating some knockout jewels, but as with most situations, I tried to set the bar low so I wouldn’t be disappointed. And I wasn’t. I was pleasantly happy with what I saw on the red carpet. Diamonds glistened one right after the other, and although it seemed like California had their own “white out” going on, it was the few pops of color that we did see that totally stood out. But hey, who can complain about diamonds?! From Sienna Miller’s unexpected pearls, to the numerous bold diamond necklaces, and the cherry on top for me was Michelle Williams’ black velvet bow around her neck. I loved all these looks I just mentioned and thought they suited each celebrity perfectly. I couldn’t imagine any other person rocking those pearls the way Sienna Miller did (well I could, but they would have ended up on my worst jewelry list) and that is what makes these jewelry trends able to translate into the real world.

Jewels at my Doorstep: Greenwich St. Jewelers

Greenwich St. Jewelers | Gem Gossip Greenwich St. Jewelers | Gem Gossip Greenwich St. Jewelers | Gem Gossip Greenwich St. Jewelers | Gem Gossip Greenwich St. Jewelers | Gem Gossip Greenwich St. Jewelers | Gem Gossip Greenwich St. Jewelers | Gem Gossip

Congrats to Greenwich Jewelers, or should I say Greenwich St. Jewelers, who, after 40 years in business, has gotten a new name and a few other “enhancements” to their brand. The rebranding includes a new look to their logo, a new tagline, redesigned website and in-store as well. For the family-run business, these changes have been a long-time coming and both sisters Jennifer Gandia and Christina Gandia Gambale are so excited to unveil everything. “Our parents, Carl and Milly Gandia, opened the store in 1976 and only changed the store’s location after the September 11th attacks, when structural damage to their building led to a move onto nearby Trinity Place,” says Jennifer, who is now the co-owner of the store, along with her sister, Christina. “The new name honors our roots as a downtown New York City retail brand. But the rebranding also conveys how we have evolved into a 21st century store.”

The Greenwich St. Jewelers‘ new tagline is special and significant, as it truly completes what the store is all about–it reads, “Inspired jewels since 1976.” Jennifer says, “The tagline represents our commitment to curating a killer selection of jewelry from artists that have a distinct point of view, one that views jewelry from a singular, unique perspective. Even the pieces from our private label collection, which errs more classic, push the boundaries of that classification.” The evolution and new changes are a great example of how the Gandia sisters’ contributions to their family’s legacy will pave the way for a successful future.

I’ve been wanting to visit Greenwich St. Jewelers for quite some time now. New York City is a place I don’t get to travel to quite often and when I do, it is for an quick event, with no time to spare. Lucky for me, Greenwich St. Jewelers came to my doorstep! The rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings all prettier than the next arrived, representing a wide range of inventory the store is known for. Designers from around the world, including their own line of designs, all come together and are able to be mixed and matched with ease. The latest jewelry trends, like lariat necklaces and geometric styles, ear climbers and vintage-inspired pieces, can be found at Greenwich St. Jewelers.

I couldn’t stop wearing the 18k white gold diamond tennis bracelet from Greenwich St. Jewelers’ own collection–the clasp on it was unlike any other tennis bracelet I’ve worn. It is adjustable with chains and a gold movable bead. How smart! It also makes it so much more comfortable than your average tennis bracelet, and at 2.37 carats total, it sure sparkled a lot! I also was starry-eyed over their diamond earrings and felt that stacking them on the same ear rather than wearing them normally was necessary! The earrings total 1.68 carats in diamonds and have an edgy, glam look to them. Most would consider them for fancy wear only, but I say no way, every day wear is a must!

Other designers that I got to wear from this Greenwich St. Jewelers feature include Arik Kastan, Jennie Kwon Designs, Zoe Chicco, Getana, Sorellina, and Todd Reed. If you didn’t think multiple designers could be worn all together at the same time before, think again! Greenwich St. Jewelers has been proving that for years now and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store the next 40 years for them.

Jewelry used for this shoot:
