GET THE LOOK FROM THE MALDIVES: GREEN HUES IN SEVAN BICAKCI RINGS

As you might have seen my wedding ceremony took place in the Maldives earlier this year. I recently went back to this dreamy destination for the first time since that wonderful trip.  This time I came to my beloved Maldives to shoot a jewellery campaign for a Gem Kreatives‘ client.

I had just a few minutes to capture my Maldives gold jewelry look in the beautiful surroundings of the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli. My green hued outfit from the London-based Ukrainian knitwear designer Kukhareva blended in perfectly with the St. Regis Maldives design. You already know my love for craftsmanship, so this is why I like Kuchareva’s pieces: you can tell how much effort she puts into fabric creation in her London workshop.

You might have noticed that I’m obsessed with green at the moment. One of my favourite Sevan Bicakci rings with intaglio carved in the stone and painted inside to give this ring a light green colour was just meant to be worn in Maldives. This is one of Sevan Bicacki‘s sculptural rings, and it features three doves as a symbol of hope inspired by the Noah and the Ark story.

I completed my jungle look with H Stern gold ring crafted with diamonds and noble gold, unique to H Stern jewellery collection. This Genesis H.Stern Ring looks much softer against the skin due to the champagne colour of its diamonds.

GEMOLOGUE BOOK SIGNING, SOTHEBY’S: KEEPING THE MAGIC OF JEWELLERY ALIVE

Delighted so many of you could make it to my book singing and talk with the Head of Sotheby’s jewellery department. I was worried people wouldn’t be able to make it on a Friday afternoon, so I’m really grateful we had a full room. Many of you who couldn’t make it in person tuned into my Instagram Live. So a big thank you to everyone for finding time to join me. I enjoyed giving this talk; the questions you raised during the Q&A touched upon so many interesting topics with regards to the world of jewellery, it was a joy.

If you want to catch my next jewellery talk and future book signing, subscribe to my newsletter below.

I love travelling to places where jewellery is as much a part of the conversation as politics. But quite often I encounter communities where the people are not crazy about jewellery, I think, because they’re not aware of its extraordinary history and powerful symbolism. Perhaps it’s because I’m a Taurus that I have such a strong and emotional bond to beautiful works of art. I am drawn to the beauty of an object and I find great comfort in its magnificence.

I’ve always dreamed of owning precious objects of sculptural beauty, not as a show of extravagance but to be close to something of great mastery. As I’m typing this blog now sitting on the train from Paris, the sun’s rays from the window hit my diamond rings and beautiful sparkles dance and play all around me. It’s so magical. It’s the way jewellery catches the light that captivates me and I love watching how other people’s jewellery sparkles with flashes of different colours. Were not pearl earrings and diamond tiaras meant to be worn in candlelight to illuminate the face and create allure?

It’s easy to compare jewellery to art, but the art world has its own niche and code of conduct. Jewellery takes you into another circle of talented individuals, each as artistic as the next. It defines you in a society where jewellery has become democratized and more of a statement of style than status. No need to seal a letter with your signet ring; we use password protected emails now. No need for physical possessions when you’re away from home travelling the world, experiencing different cultures, tasting exotic foods and engaging in inspiring activities. No need to keep jewellery when you can buy synthetic diamonds with no lasting value. Even I wonder whether my children will want my jewellery as heirlooms. Our notion of jewellery is getting destroyed. So my goal is to keep that dream alive by featuring such amazing jewellery designers and experts the world has to offer. It’s a beautiful sparkly world and I’m so proud to be a part of it and share it with you.

I am very sentimental about my jewellery – the gifts I’ve received from loved ones, my engagement ring, my anniversary ring, my first pair of Tahitian pearl earrings that I bought for myself from Goldman Sachs with my first pay cheque, to me jewellery captures the memory of a special occasion much like a photo. Every time I wear these sentimental items, I’m transported back in time to a memory I’ll treasure forever. It’s magical!

I want to inspire others to feel the same way I do about jewellery. The moment I began GEMOLOGUE, it became obvious to me just how many women have no interest in jewellery – about 7 out of 10, I’d say. So my objective became to attract more people into the jewellery world by educating them in a fun, approachable way, and showcasing different styles of jewellery like the ones you can find in my new book. I want to show people that jewellery is not only a shiny possession but something of great historical and cultural value, dating back centuries. I hope my book will inspire everyone to be a jewellery lover and look at jewellery in a different light.

Let’s bring jewellery back into the candlelight. Tell all your friends about the GEMOLOGUE jewellery book and let’s keep the magic of jewellery alive!

Would love to hear why you’re interested in jewellery and what it means to you. Please leave me a comment below.

Each piece is handmade in Los Angeles by master craftsmen using recycled metals to minimize the environmental impact. We are thrilled to now have her stunning jewellery available in our Mont Thabor boutique, exclusively in France.

What is your first jewellery memory ?

I remember sitting on the carpet on my grandmothers bathroom looking through her jewellery collection. I must have been five. She would always show me her pieces, she had a great mixture of deco pieces and also mid-century silver. She was a great teacher. Most importantly, she shared with me how special jewellery can be as a marker of time in ones life, and the power it has being handed down through generations, to tell stories of the past.

What’s the first piece that you designed ?

It was the Egg pendant.

All Good Things Come In Sets!

CIRCA considers Bulgari one of our favorite jewelry designers. Our client came in with this lovely bracelet with matching earrings. The pastel colors define their iconic appeal. They were her mother-in-law’s. Upon her passing there were several items our client inherited, many of which she will be wearing for years to come. Not these though. “I just can’t make them mine,” she confided in us. “…so I suppose I’ll be making them yours.”

Check out other sets we’ve purchased below!

David Webb White Enamel, Diamond & Gold Equestrian Set

CIRCA buys entire collections of jewelry. You’d be pretty surprised at how consistent some can be. At CIRCA we are lucky enough to be offered a window into the personal taste of certain collectors. It can be quite an honor. This collector’s remarkable David Webb white enamel jewelry helped to define her signature look. When it was time to sell, our client was also looking for our consistency. In this case it was our time honored consistent commitment to meet privately, offer in writing, pay immediately.

Bulgari Serpenti Diamond & Gold Watch, Earring & Ring Set

Since its creation CIRCA 1940, the iconic Bulgari Serpenti has frequently evolved from its original design, continuously slithering alongside women’s fashion to exude the bold glamour of each new decade. The serpent has since become an essential mascot in Bulgari’s jewelry collection, coveted by some of the world’s most glamorous women. Elizabeth Taylor’s wrist was famously adorned by a custom bejeweled Serpenti while on the set of her acclaimed film, Cleopatra. On a visit to our Hong Kong office, our client showed us her collection and was thrilled upon hearing our offer. Her jewelry and diamonds really were worth more at CIRCA.

Cartier Djigar Diamond & Gold Earring Set

This purchase came as a referral from a longtime client in Chicago. The Cartier suite was accompanied by our most recent satisfied client who in turn told us of the friends she would refer. The Djigar earrings and ring suite depict elephants walking. Legend has it that elephants never forget. And you should never forget the lengths to which CIRCA will go to to make a satisfied client of you

THE UNIQUE JEWELS OF JCK LUXURY 2017

From a different side of the world, I woke up in Vegas and to my luck, I found myself surrounded by shiny objects! I’m at the JCK Luxury show in Las Vegas again this year and this time I’m on the lookout for unique jewels to inspire you.

The JCK Luxury show truly is a bridal paradise. With so many engagement rings to choose from, it’s the perfect place to change your mind and upgrade to something bigger or different! Of course, I’m not thinking of doing this (yet!) I just got engaged in Venice and I can’t take my eyes off my own engagement ring. But it’s nice to dream.

You already know how much I love and recommend coloured diamonds from my earlier review of the Taylor & Hart Moi Et Toi engagement ring with yellow diamonds. This time, I was lucky enough to see some amazing examples of pink and even green diamonds, which I’ll share with you. Lucky owners of unique engagement rings love to explore other possibilities for their ears, necks, and fingers.

So sit back and enjoy this unique collection of some of the most beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewels from the JCK Luxury Show 2017. I’ve got interviews with some amazing jewellery designers, with some unique behind-the-scenes coverage of my Las Vegas experience.

Stay up to date on all of my jewellery adventures and follow GEMOLOGUE on Instagram and Facebook. You can also subscribe to the GEMOLOGUE newsletter for all the latest news.

Lovely Erica was featured last year in 10 Jewellery Designers to Know from JCK Luxury Las Vegas. We talked about how she got started on her jewellery journey. If you’re an emerging jewellery designer, you’ll find Erica to be a great source of inspiration. Her unique use of paraiba tourmaline in unique designs adds a delicious layer of colour. I love paraiba tourmaline. It’s a blue that reminds of my favourite place in the Maldives. What makes it such a special gemstone? Tell me in the comments below.

???Have you ever seen a #WatermelonTourmaline?! ? In conversation with Meira of @MeiraTJewelry at JCK Luxury @JCKEvents in #LasVegas! @LizaUrla #jewelrytraveller #gemologue #meirat GEMOLOGUE.com ? @lizaurla

As you might remember, I was the  face for the Meira T campaign for an international advertisement campaign and in Harrods. We shot the campaign in NYC overlooking Central Park. It was amazing. I’m so happy to be able to catch up with Meira T herself and see her fabulous new jewellery pieces. Talk about unique! She a pioneer of slices in  jewellery designs like this beautiful watermelon tourmaline slice pendant. If you’ve never seen a gemstone like this before, it’s called watermelon for a reason. An incredibly unique gemstone with a mouth-watering pink centre and delicious green outer layer, it looks good enough to eat. Tourmalines come in a wide range of exciting colours and are unlike any other in their colourful variety. I’m beginning to think it’s the Year of the Tourmaline!

Amongst all the most beautiful jewels, unique gemstones, and extraordinary diamonds, I found a talented artist by the name of Angie Crabtree. Her medium is the canvas. She paints diamonds and famous diamond cuts with the utmost precision. She’ll even create a painting of your very own diamond engagement ring to remind you of your wonderful husband. So when your mind starts to dream of bigger diamond engagement rings, you can just turn to your marvellous painting. Angie’s first commission was a five-foot-high diamond painting. Imagine! Don’t forget to check out her new Angie’s new line of iPhone cases before they sell out!

???I am officially all about #coloureddiamonds right now. Only one in every 10,000 diamonds possesses natural colour and is referred to as a #coloureddiamond! Close your eyes and repeat, “Dazzling brilliance. Captivating colour.” The planet’s most valued gems are fancy colour diamonds. My dreams come true, captured here by Uneek. This is the second green diamond I’ve ever seen. (The first time was at Harrods in London by Lorraine Schwartz). This green diamond is by Uneek Jewels and is one of a kind and unique. The most famous green diamond is the 41ct Dresden Green Diamond. It’s also the largest and the finest specimen for its truly unique colour.

But you know, I can’t just limit myself to coloured diamonds! My obsession for diamonds transcends colour! Just take a look at this 30-carat oval diamond from Rahaminov Diamonds, worth $6.4M. Any takers? Don’t be shy! My email is [email protected] Funny enough, after I shared this unique diamond, I was asked to find a 50-carat diamond for a client. There are no limits to people’s imagination! With diamonds, it’s not always about the size but also the story behind them. Like the beautiful ring that Tamara showed me with two white diamonds and one yellow diamond to symbolize her three children (two girls and a boy). Clink on the link to see this magnificent ring.

In the middle of the interview with Brazilian Graziela, she mentioned whether I’d heard about the attacks in London that had just happened. My heart stopped and I quickly checked to make sure my Brazilian fiance and friends in London were alive and well. After a glass of water, we continued the interview. From my experience, I know the best jewellery pieces are always hidden away from view. So I persuaded Graziela to share them with me. Wouldn’t you know it, she revealed a unique collection of paraiba tourmaline slices in pendants and rings. Every slice is a piece of art created by Nature with such precious beauty.

Talk about unique! You won’t believe it when I tell you about this next jewellery designer. The Mark Henry Alexandrite Jewellery Collection is a beautiful homage to a once forgotten and unique jewel, the alexandrite. You’ll have to watch the video to find out why the alexandrite gemstone is so unique. This amazing jewel changes colour and has been described by gem aficionados as an emerald by day, and a ruby by night. It was first discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia in the 1830s and named after Czar Alexander II. Nowadays, you can only find it in Sri Lanka, East Africa, and Brazil. Finding alexandrite of this quality is exceptionally rare and valuable. If you are Russian, go take a look inside your grandma’s jewellery box. You never know your luck. You might discover an alexandrite yourself.

But if I ask nicely, I always manage to reveal the most beautiful pieces of jewellery in the world, just for your viewing pleasure! So here’s a rare glimpse of some fabulous paraiba tourmaline jewels, like these earrings. I will dream about these earrings every night and imagine myself wearing them on the beaches of the Maldives. Such a perfect gemstone for the most beautiful place. Sutra Jewels have paraiba tourmaline jewels to match the beautiful turquoise waters of the Maldives and Tulum, my two favourite destinations. Read my Travel Guide To Tulum and discover this magical place for yourself. Immerse yourself in the gorgeous colours of the Maldives and check out my Maldives Fashion Style.
